Certified Humane
There are currently no federal standards for cage free egg production in the United States, leaving consumers without any guarantee as to whether their eggs were actually produced in a cage free facility. NestFresh voluntarily submits its farms to audits by Humane Farm Animal Care to prove that our eggs are always 100% cage free and to fulfill our promise to our hens and our customers to treat our hens as humanely as possible.
Humane Farm Animal Care is a nonprofit organization that provides audits of our facilities and independent third party verification that NestFresh farms are abiding by the Certified Humane standards and regulations. A board of animal care experts including scientists, veterinarians, and nutritionists created the guidelines for certification, which include that hens are:
• Given a nutrient rich diet free of antibiotics or growth hormones
• Never kept in cages and are free to move around and flap their wings
• Kept in a safe environment and are sheltered from harmful weather conditions and predators
• Allowed to engage in their natural behaviors
• Handled gently to reduce stress
There are many other requirements and standards for Certified Humane farms and they are updated as these experts learn more about how we can improve the lives of our hens.
We chose to partner with Humane Farm Animal Care and the Certified Humane program because we wanted to show our customers and the rest of the egg industry that NestFresh is committed to the humane treatment of our hens. The Certified Humane logo on NestFresh cartons is your assurance that our eggs really are 100% cage free.
NestFresh is proud to join Humane Farm Animal Care and their Certified Humane program in their mission to improve the welfare of the 10 billion farm animals raised for food each year. You can learn more about Certified Humane at
