The Leader in Non-GMO Eggs
Eggs from hens fed vegetarian feed that meets Non-GMO Project standards.
We are so proud to be the first egg company to produce Non-GMO Project verified eggs and to lead the way in humane, sustainable farming. We know you are concerned about the rise in GMOs in our food and agriculture system, so we worked with the Non-GMO Project to develop the first standards and verification for Non-GMO Project Verified Eggs. Now, you can feel good about the fact that your eggs come from humanely treated hens on small family farms and that they also reduce the amount of GMO crops.
Caring For Land And Animals
Our very special feed, which has undergone the extensive Non-GMO Project verification process, is grown within the same small farming communities that raise our free-range hens. These farmers care about the land and animals under their care, so they follow strict animal welfare standards in addition to the Non-GMO standards.
Our farmers not only provide nestboxes, perches, and scratch areas inside their cage free barns, they also give their hens outdoor access to ensure that the hens can fully express their natural behaviors. Each hen enjoys a minimum of 2 square feet of outdoor space to forage, roam, and enjoy the sunlight. The hens are able to forage and roam freely, making NestFresh Non-GMO Project Verified Free Range Eggs the most sustainable and humane choice.
Our farming communities also grow and mill their own non-GMO feed. These crops are free from pesticides, GMO contamination, and harmful chemicals.
Your Right To Know
We are proud to work with the Non-GMO Project for our Non-GMO verification. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that was founded on the principal that people should have access to clearly-labeled non-GMO food and products. They educate consumers and the food industry to increase awareness of GMOs, explain their impact on our health and food systems, and help support informed choice. To that end, they developed North America’s only independent verification for products made according to best practices for GMO avoidance. The Non-GMO Project verification is an assurance that a product has been produced according to consensus-based best practices for GMO avoidance including:
- Ongoing testing of all at-risk ingredients
- Rigorous traceability and segregation practices to ensure ingredient integrity through to the finished product
- An annual audit and onsite inspections for high-risk products
According to the Non-GMO Project, 80% of conventional processed food contains GMOs, so choosing non-GMO products has an important impact on families, farmers, and the Earth. When you buy NestFresh Non-GMO Free Range Eggs, you are helping to protect us all from a number of food safety and environmental issues.
Increased pesticide use
Over 80% of all GMOs grown worldwide are engineered for herbicide tolerance. As a result, use of toxic herbicides like Roundup has increased 15 times since GMOs were introduced. GMO crops are also responsible for the emergence of “super weeds” and “super bugs”.
Unknown changes to biodiversity
The long-term impacts of GMOs are unknown, and once released into the environment these novel organisms cannot be recalled. They may also cross-contaminate and change the characteristics of native and heritage plants.
Violations of farmers’ rights and threats to food security
Because GMOs are novel life forms, biotechnology companies have been able to obtain patents with which to restrict their use. As a result, the companies that make GMOs now have the power to sue farmers whose fields are contaminated with GMOs, even when it is the result of inevitable drift from neighboring fields. GMOs therefore pose a serious threat to farmer sovereignty and to the national food security of any country where they are grown, including the United States.
Untested technology that is banned or regulated around the world
Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In more than 60 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs.
