We are glad to share a guest post from our friends at Colorado Egg Producers Association, of which NestFresh is a proud member.

This holiday season, Colorado egg farmers are committed to helping Coloradans in need through egg donations to Feeding Colorado food banks. The Colorado Egg Producers (CEP) Association encourages you to join in the fight against hunger in our state.

According to Feeding America, one in eight Americans struggle with hunger. Across the United States, that equates to 48.1 million people including 13.1 million children. The most recent data shows that one in seven Coloradans worry about where they will find food for their next meal and sadly, nearly half are children, according to the Food Bank of the Rockies.

CEP, a membership organization representing six farms, has an unwavering mission to provide high-quality eggs to Coloradans and is committed to giving back to the community year after year. Colorado egg farmers and CEP members are on track to donate more than 750,000 eggs this year to local charities, including food banks and homeless shelters, to help feed those in need. Through regular monthly egg donations and an Easter donation, CEP has donated more than 8 million eggs to food banks throughout Colorado since 2009.

“As local egg farmers and active members of our communities, we are thankful for the opportunity to help our fellow neighbors in need,” CEP President Jerry Wilkins said. “That is why we donate thousands of eggs to food banks across Colorado each and every year. Eggs are one of the best foods for easy meals and snacks – morning, noon and night. With 13 essential vitamins and nutrients, eggs are a source of high quality protein and they keep us full for longer than many other options.”

CEP is also proud to be a part of the Good Egg Project, an initiative from America’s egg farmers that aims to educate people about where eggs come from and to encourage Americans to help conquer hunger in the U.S. Since 2009, The Good Egg Project has donated more than 50 million eggs to America’s food banks and charities.

Join CEP in the fight against hunger this fall by donating to your local food bank. Your donation can ensure that families in need have a warm meal this holiday season.

According to Feeding America, financial donations are preferred. In fact, $1 donated to food banks can equal up to 11 meals distributed. If you would like to donate food to your local food bank, Feeding America suggests:

• Canned vegetables
• Canned soup
• Canned meats
• Canned fruit
• Macaroni and cheese
• Peanut butter
• Cereal
• Dried fruit

These items are most needed by food banks, as they are nonperishable, versatile and nutritious. Click here to find your local Feeding America food bank.
