If you follow us on social media, like our Facebook page or Twitter feed, you know we spent May celebrating National Egg Month. Just because the calendar has changed to a new month, doesn’t mean we are going to stop celebrating the incredible, edible egg. If you missed all of the egg-celent info we shared throughout May, here are some of the top reasons we love Eggs!
1. Eggs are a healthy source of protein. Just one large egg contains 6 grams of protein. That is 12% of the daily-recommended amount! In fact, eggs are one of the highest quality AND most affordable sources of protein.
2. Eggs contain about 11% of the average daily value of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential in many major body functions, but Vitamin D deficiency is very prevalent in the United States. A study published in Nutrition Research in 2011 estimated that 41.6% of Americans suffer from a Vitamin D deficiency.
3. Eggs are versatile, so we can enjoy them any time of day from breakfast to dessert and they pair well with just about any other ingredients. That makes meals a cinch to pull together as long as you have eggs on hand.
4. We’re not the only ones that love eggs! The average American eats 250 eggs per year, which translates to a total annual consumption of 76.5 billion eggs in the U.S. That’s a lot of eggs!
Tell us what you love about eggs or your favorite way to enjoy them.
